About Our Club

In the Badminton CCA, students are actively engaged in honing their badminton skills. Students also gain many opportunities to practice the 7 Habits they have learnt.

At the start of CCA, all students gather in a circle to do warm-ups. Students take charge and proactively gather together to start the warm-ups. This allows them to practice Habit 1: Be Proactive. Students do not wait passively for instructions but actively take charge of warm-ups.

During CCA, coaches and teachers lead students in many drills. Even though the drills can be difficult, students learn to persevere and not give up. Students develop grit and drive as they learn that by practising the drills, they can improve and become better players. Students can then gain the privilege of representing the school in participating in competitions and friendly matches.

When students are given time to play matches, they take turns to play on the courts. Even when students are not playing on the court, they help their friends keep track of scores. This allows students to practice Habit 4: Think Win-Win. When students help to keep track of the scores, those playing in the court do not need to worry about the scores. Students not in the court will also be actively involved in the match.

Throughout practice, many shuttlecocks are used. At the end of each practice session, there will be many shuttlecocks all over the courts. Students will work together to collect all shuttlecocks and clear the courts. Students practice Habit 6: Synergize and learn that many hands make light work. This also gives students a chance to serve their CCA-mates and schoolmates by keeping the Indoor Sports Hall neat and tidy. Hence, students become active contributors in Badminton and Blangah Rise Primary School.

2020 is a year to be remembered for BRPS Badminton. Our Badminton Senior Division Boys team fought valiantly in the National School Games Badminton Championships. Our Badminton Senior Division Girls team was established. All Badminton students proactively honed their skills and have become better sportsman.

It was an uphill battle for the Senior Division Boys. From boys with an interest in badminton yet not knowing how to hold a badminton racket, to boys able to smash a shuttlecock across the court, the Senior Division Boys have learnt and grown. The many hours of hard work put into practising each swing, each run in the court, each strategy, has allowed them to flourish. Not only did they become better skilled badminton players, they also developed determination in the pursuit of excellence and resilience in the face of difficulty.

Students with distinct leadership potential are also developed through the school’s CCA Stewardship Program. These students exit the program equipped with the confidence and interpersonal skills needed to lead their peers in the path of becoming better sportsman. They take on many roles – sometimes as a coach to teach their peer how to do a proper overhead forehand lobshot; sometimes as a cheerleader to encourage a discouraged peer; and more often as the close friend to enjoy a friendly-match with.

While many enter with a simple spark, they leave with burning passion. A passion in the sport itself, as well as a passion to grow, develop and become a better version of themselves.
